An Exploration into Sexual Harrasment

I was particularly interested in the idea of women in the workplace as its argued that there is now equality for women in terms of fair treatment and support. I watched a TEDtalk by Laura Bates titled ‘everyday sexism’ which explores the issue of everyday sexism in which she talks about little incidents of everyday sexual harassment that should be spoken about. Ths interested me because it is an issue that isn’t spoken about in h mainstream media enough and is ignored and in some cases normalised. Laura Bates then went on to set up a website where men and women could anonymously add entries of sexual harassment called the everyday sexism project and received 50,000 entries in the first 18 hours. This caused me to want to explore the legislation regarding sexual harassment and I found that the 2010 equality stated that sexual harassment is a form of unlawful discrimination. Th fact that Laura Bates released her TEDtalk in February 2019 leads me to question the effectiveness of the law in combating sexual harassment. Laura Bates stated that most of her entries on to her website were of women and what they experienced in the workplace.
